Saturday morning market, plus friends.

Hi, everyone. In the interest of posting three blogs a week, here’s a shortie. I wanted to share the wonderful photos Dorothy sent of the NN.c meetup in Arizona between her, Scout and Mike, aka Mr. Dorothy:

It looks like a wonderful time was had by all. Today, spider balls were on special at the market. I believe you civilians would call them osage oranges.

Enjoy your weekend, whatever it entails.

Did not know that about osage oranges. My brother and I liked to throw them at Cadillacs.

Spider balls? Here in Indiana, when I was a kid, we called them monkey brains. I didn’t know about their pest-repellent properties and after googling about it I don’t buy the hype. Google AI calls it a folk tale.

Hi Scout! Hi Dorothy and Mike! Everyone looks really happy and I’m so glad you got to get together.

May I share some more good news? Our DIL is losing her job after working for a large theme park business since she was a college intern. Entire department shutting down, outsourced mostly to AI. (We’ll see how that works, right?) She’s been job-hunting since it was announced this summer, and hasn’t found a position. Neither has anyone else in her department, which means a Master’s and 15 years of experience somehow isn’t enough in this particular job market.

Yesterday our son texted that he’s been promoted, with a salary increase. It couldn’t possibly have come at a better time. I’m still hoping they can stay in town, but realize it might not be in the cards. So today I will rejoice in a reprieve.

This might be the first time a picture of me is included in a Nancy post! Thanks – we did have a very, very nice visit. Even though it was pretty hot outside, we were comfortable out on the patio. I even asked the wait staff to see if they could lower the volume on the music because to hear Mike, you really cannot have much background noise. They very graciously did so and that way he was able to talk (whisper). Also when we got home, unbelievably we got a phone call Thursday morning FINALLY telling us that the correct Medicare codes were put in to order his PET scan, and he had it yesterday at 8:30 AM. And we connected with the oncologist – we’ll meet him on Thursday morning. That call about the PET scan was the sixth time we talked to that department.

The oncologist’s office said they’d been trying to contact us and been unsuccessful. I asked what numbers they had for him. She listed two phone numbers associated with our house in Mount Vernon. A land line and his office number – a place we moved away from in 2013. Unbelievable! It worked out okay but jeez do you need to be on top of things like this – do not be complacent and think that the doctors etc will be coming to YOU. You must be dogged in your pursuit of services, and I’m glad I have all my wits about me to do that. I’m also being James Comey these days and taking contemporaneous notes when we have conversations with medical personnel. (The first time I think I ever heard that expression was when Shit for Brains was in office the first time, and Comey said he’d taken those kinds of notes after meeting with him).

There was a mature Osage orange in a park in north Atlanta when I was in grad school there in the early 1980’s. I don’t think I have ever seen another. If you leave an Osage orange fruit in your cupboard for a year, it will pretty much take care of the spiders, because they will get tired of waiting for anything to happen.

Lookin good, Scout, Dorothy and husband, and good news about getting the medical info you were waiting on, Dorothy. I used to call that baby sitting the world before I retired and constantly had to call and call and call to get people to get me the info I needed, and it was for work I was trying to give them. It always astounded me how it seemed like people weren’t interested in answering calls when it meant they could get projects to make money on.

Tomorrow we head back to Chicago. It’s been a fun trip, especially the whale watching. What beautiful, graceful animals.

We’ve been walking a lot, today was 7+ miles and yesterday was 8+ miles in Boston. What a great city.
