That cabinet meeting.

Still sick, still gotta deadline, still 90 degrees. Have this mixed grill.

What’s the matter with Kansas? They took the craziest tax-cutters at their word, and look what happened.

The 101 canonical tweets. In the depths of my feverish misery, I wept my mascara off, laughing at some of these.

Speaking of Twitter, though: As the kids say, Thread.

Is North Korean diplomacy a job for the secretary of state? Or…:::echo FX here::: Dennis Rodman?

Finally, I repeat what I said yesterday: Has there ever been a more unctuous windbag than Mike Pence? When he says, “the greatest honor of my life,” I wonder how he explains it to Mother. Ah, she’s probably Pinteresting inaugural ballgowns; what am I saying?

Hope I can see the doc today.

You always knew the Republicans were the weakest link, when they weren’t busy being the missing one.

Ass kissing and the whole supine “fuck me, Russian daddy” are counted as virtues among them. I’ve never seen anyone breaking a sweat in the race to get that smudge of fudge on their lips like our fundie shitsnufflers.

…and – I’m sick of hearing the Flying Monkeys of the right-wing airwaves (including now our local radio yapper) assert that there is NO EVIDENCE OF COLLUSION with Russia.

    Say – what about ‘infiltration’?

There doesn’t have to be a grand conspiracy; Trump (et al) may not be ‘in’ on the con (or at least not ‘in’ on ALL of the cons!)

I am just so sick of this whole Trump/Russia/GOP mess. Shortly after the election, I expressed my consternation to my husband because, I said, Trump is a narcissistic lunatic and there is no one in office now to stop him from doing whatever he wants. Checks and balances are meaningless if the Congress won’t use them to do what they are designed to do. They have proven, and are proving, that they won’t.
If we ever have another election, it will be a Soviet style Wink-wink “free” election. You know, you are free to vote for Boris or Boris or not vote.

Not sure if anyone else has seen this, but NBC Sports is reporting online the new NBA champion Golden State Warriors voted unanimously NOT to visit the White House. One of the players is quoted as saying the Orange King is the antithesis of what he tries to teach at risk youth through one of his charitable programs. And GS Coach Steve Kerr, whose father was assassinated by religious radicals when he was president of American University in Beruit, has been a very vocal critic of the Orange King and his policies. Good on them all. Can’t wait to hear what the Twitter-in-Chief has to say in response.

Mike Pence seems very odd. On camera he acts as if he’s resolutely repeating whatever he’s been told to say. “The President … “.

Pence’s self-introduction as “a Christian first” made me wonder about the evidence. Does he feed the poor, clothe the naked, visit the sick and the prisoners, welcome the stranger? Google doesn’t reveal the answer but maybe it wouldn’t.

Pence released his tax returns. His charitable contributions were less than a tithe. Maybe he donates to worthy non 501(c)(3) organizations. I’d love to see his Schedule A but can’t find that through Google either.

There was a lament in the Financial Time recently about the state of Evangelical Christianity. Key phrase: “Reading from a severely abridged Bible, their political concerns have narrowed down to abortion and issues involving homosexuality.” https://www.ft.com/content/b41d0ee6-1e96-11e7-b7d3-163f5a7f229c I hope there is more to Pence’s faith than that.

What is it about Indiana governors and their marital relationships? Mrs. Mitch Daniels goes on sabbatical for a couple of years and then comes back to Mitch. Mrs. Pence was married before and her first husband barely remembers her.

When I was an architectural student, the whole concept of socially responsible architecture was debated. I believed then (and still do now) that good design and good architecture can be used to improve people’s lives, that architecture is more than eye candy.

One of the premier examples of good social architecture is Columbus, Indiana. On public works projects, Cummins Engine contributes money to pay for top shelf architects, and pays the difference between the budgeted and actual construction cost. The result is a town full of notable architecture, with the purpose of retaining highly educated office employees and content assembly line employees.

Mike Pence was born and raised in Columbus.

Well, so much for that concept.

Gin and Tacos on the cabinet meeting http://www.ginandtacos.com/2017/06/12/dada/

“The idea of a nation being run by a large, violent child who requires constant ass-kissing and obsequious praise to teeter back toward something approaching sanity and away from another temper tantrum is not new. Nor will the consequences of it in the United States be as brutal and severe as they are and have been in many countries around the world. But if you’ve been waiting for a Smoking Gun to prove that our president has the classic narcissistic Third World Strongman personality, you can rest your case now. A person who is not severely maladjusted is embarrassed by fawning praise by obviously insincere lackeys. Trump apparently can’t function without it.

On the plus side, we all know what happened to Amin.”

Damn it, another of the greats is gone. Chuck Thacker, who worked for Bob Taylor at Xerox PARC and later DEC SRC, died yesterday: https://m.cacm.acm.org/news/218536-in-memoriam-charles-p-chuck-thacker-1943-2017/fulltext

I feel this one even more keenly. The summer I interned at SRC, I worked in Cuck’s group, though not directly for Chuck. I’ll never forget, the first project I had was just a simple little program that would give me a chance to learn Modula 3, the programming language they used, and the computing environment. But it was a simple little program to solve a little, but real and annoying problem, one that had in particular been annoying Chuck. He was so delighted when I wrote this little program that he came and thanked me for it.

Chuck was supposed to be on a panel at the conference I’ll be attending next week, and I was hoping for the chance to say hi and thank him, and now that won’t happen.

    Damn it.

I heard her questioning Foghorn Leghorn. Oh my. He said he followed the rules of the Attorney General’s office but then would not answer yes or no whether or not he’d actually seen a print copy or read the rules. He just couldn’t say. Then she asked him, how did he know what the rules were if he couldn’t say if he’d gone over them with anyone or read them? That might be the point at which he said she was making him nervous. SNOWFLAKE!

If there’s a better example of Southern White Male privilege somewhere I can’t think of one — only reason that guy ever got anywhere was by making sure there were no smart brown or lady people who could challenge him. I was at a political fundraiser over the weekend and got the chance to chat with my Congress member, Rep. Suzan DelBene. I don’t know whether she’s more hopeful, less cynical, or more deluded, but she doesn’t think the Senate Republicans will be able to pass their healthcare bill. She doesn’t think Fucking Piece of Shit (note: my words, not hers) will be able to forge an agreement between the so-called moderates and the nihilists, and that FPS just wants to say he tried and move on to tax reform.

The healthcare bill, of course, is a big tax-cut, but if I understood the machinations of the not very clever Republicans who were trying to use the healthcare bill to make their tax reform possible, they may have run out of time for their fiendish plan, which involved (I think) getting two budgets done in one year. Since there seems to have been little progress on one budget, that seems unlikely, and they’ll have to come up with some other stupid plan to pay for their tax reform, like ignore the rules. It’s not even clear they’re going to be able to raise the debt ceiling in a couple of weeks, they’re so dysfunctional.

BTW, she had nothing good to say about Paul Ryan.

When it comes to “unctuous windbags” there is so much competition. I kind of think Mitch McConnell leads the category but then, he’s more of a sleazy-bag than a windbag. And at the least on a Dr. No level of super-villainy. Pence, on the other hand seems like a people who have lived a full life and not learned one thing from it.

Brian @3: Saying there’s no evidence of collusion with the Russians would be a lot more persuasive if Trump wasn’t constantly talking about it.

Megan Kelly and Alex Jones: The people who hired her, approved the content of her first couple of shows and scheduled it for prime time Sunday need tp have their heads examined then kicked out the door. This is such a hideous miscarriage of journalism.

Senator Al Franken has a book out, Giant of the Senate. I’ve been reading it and greatly enjoying it. After eight years as a humorless senator he’s let his inner comedian out. The book is funny, serious, insightful and a lot of fun to read.

Watching Jeff Sesh roll up like a pillbug under Kamala Harris’ cross examination, and that sleek piece of white shit Richard burr stepping in to protect a grownass man from questioning reminds me the south has forgotten how badly they lost their bid for an evil state, and the North has forgotten what or why it was fighting.

A neoconfederate piece of shit squared of with another Republican in VA last night and was within 2 or three points. The winner of the primary says he’ll fight to keep Confederate statues in place.

I’ve been criticized by some dumbass yankees out here who think the south is just wunnerful cause they treat white yankees real good. Those folks have no idea of what’s slopping around the bottom of that pan, or they choose to ignore it out of some deeply misguided affinity for other pink motherfuckers.

I just saw a reference to this 1920’s crime in Van Newkirk’s book on lynching in North Carolina. Many of the 200 people involved in this lynching were still breathing and shitting when the Beatles played Shea.

Those bad genes get passed on, especially in a tight little rural cousinfuck burg like Roxboro. And Bama’s even worse- the killing fields of a vast American concentration camp. The US is still up to its knees in the worst kind of white trash, and as a country, we need to legislate these people and their mushy-ass defenders into the political shithouse.

Getting town hall questions fed to Grandma Hillary, reporters vetting opposition research articles with the DNC, etc. None of which has ever been denied (because it is true).

And now with House Majority Whip and his aides being shot, is it time for you to reconsider your incendiary, violent rhetoric about “targeting” congressional districts and putting Republicans in the “crosshairs” like when everyone lost their collective shit when Gabby Gifford got shot. Or will you double down and pluck a quote from your hero Hillary… “What does it matter?!?!”
