Shortly after the election, I expressed my consternation to my husband because, I said, Trump is a narcissistic lunatic and there is no one in office now to stop him from doing whatever he wants. Not sure if anyone else has seen this, but NBC Sports is reporting online the new NBA champion Golden State Warriors voted unanimously NOT to visit the White House. One of the players is quoted as saying the Orange King is the antithesis of what he tries to teach at risk youth through one of his charitable programs. And GS Coach Steve Kerr, whose father was assassinated by religious radicals when he was president of American University in Beruit, has been a very vocal critic of the Orange King and his policies. Good on them all. Can’t wait to hear what the Twitter-in-Chief has to say in response.

Pence released his tax returns. His charitable contributions were less than a tithe. Maybe he donates to worthy non 501(c)(3) organizations. I’d love to see his Schedule A but can’t find that through Google either.

When I was an architectural student, the whole concept of socially responsible architecture was debated. I believed then (and still do now) that good design and good architecture can be used to improve people’s lives, that architecture is more than eye candy.

On public works projects, Cummins Engine contributes money to pay for top shelf architects, and pays the difference between the budgeted and actual construction cost. I feel this one even more keenly. The summer I interned at SRC, I worked in Cuck’s group, though not directly for Chuck. I’ll never forget, the first project I had was just a simple little program that would give me a chance to learn Modula 3, the programming language they used, and the computing environment. But it was a simple little program to solve a little, but real and annoying problem, one that had in particular been annoying Chuck. He was so delighted when I wrote this little program that he came and thanked me for it.
Chuck was supposed to be on a panel at the conference I’ll be attending next week, and I was hoping for the chance to say hi and thank him, and now that won’t happen.
Damn it.

It was a gorgeous day in NM, clear, dry, cooling winds, high of 77. But it’s going to be up in the 90s the next few days. Still not as bad as 90s in the steamy Midwest.

I was at a political fundraiser over the weekend and got the chance to chat with my Congress member, Rep. Suzan DelBene. I don’t know whether she’s more hopeful, less cynical, or more deluded, but she doesn’t think the Senate Republicans will be able to pass their healthcare bill. She doesn’t think Fucking Piece of Shit (note: my words, not hers) will be able to forge an agreement between the so-called moderates and the nihilists, and that FPS just wants to say he tried and move on to tax reform.
The healthcare bill, of course, is a big tax-cut, but if I understood the machinations of the not very clever Republicans who were trying to use the healthcare bill to make their tax reform possible, they may have run out of time for their fiendish plan, which involved (I think) getting two budgets done in one year. Since there seems to have been little progress on one budget, that seems unlikely, and they’ll have to come up with some other stupid plan to pay for their tax reform, like ignore the rules. It’s not even clear they’re going to be able to raise the debt ceiling in a couple of weeks, they’re so dysfunctional.
BTW, she had nothing good to say about Paul Ryan.

When it comes to “unctuous windbags” there is so much competition. I kind of think Mitch McConnell leads the category but then, he’s more of a sleazy-bag than a windbag. Senator Al Franken has a book out, Giant of the Senate. I’ve been reading it and greatly enjoying it. After eight years as a humorless senator he’s let his inner comedian out. The book is funny, serious, insightful and a lot of fun to read.
