Pants on fire.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you…the liberal media:

Want more? OK, here ya go:

All of the above is a lie. The people Trump is endorsing in Michigan aren’t making “election administration and investigating last year’s vote central to their platforms,” they’re Stop the Steal lunatics who have stated, baldly, that Trump Won, and that if they’re elected, they’re going to do their best to make sure he never loses again.

The election has been litigated, recounted, audited and investigated, and none of their claims have been found to have any basis in fact.

But this is NBC News here, and to write that Trump “narrowly” lost Michigan is also fiction. He lost Michigan by 154,000 votes. That is not a narrow victory. And these people are not interested in improving elections. This is the “liberal,” mainstream media promoting this fucking garbage. I can’t stand it.

But OK, it’s the long weekend. I got most of my shopping done (online), picked up a couple stocking stuffers from local businesses, and even scored a white shirt I’ve been looking for forEVER from a local business, and a black-owned one at that. So I’m counting this as a win, Chuck Todd or not.

My birthday was very nice, even if I spent much of it cooking, at least it was pretty easy. Thanksgiving is basically a matter of chopping and timing; with enough advance work, you really don’t have to spend all day in the kitchen. We had the usual for our small tribe of four, and it was very fine, topped with two desserts, for Team Cake and Team Pie. The last of the turkey went into tonight’s tetrazzini, and that puts the holiday to bed. With the worst of the chores handled, I intend to spend the rest of December doing January organizing and maybe making some gingerbread. The hell with the holidays; maybe we can enjoy the season for once. See the lights, go to some parties, all of it.

And it was very nice to watch Michigan beat the shit out of Ohio State, the first in a decade:

So the week begins. Enjoy it.

I can’t even with our “liberal” media.

Part of the problem is that Republicans have been so successful at working the refs for the past 40 years — and editors are so afraid of being targeted by some right-wing “watchdog” group — that reporters twist themselves into knots trying to put a neutral spin on even the most disgusting conservatives.

Part of the problem is that reporters, as a group, are nowhere near as “liberal” as, say, L. Brent Bozell would like you to believe. In my experience, there are lots of “rugged individualists” in newsrooms, which I suspect is why efforts to unionize them often fail.

My wife and I went to a concert at The Fox — Joe Bonamassa, an outstanding blues man with guitar chops that rival Carlos Santana. He put on a two hour show almost non-stop. For a special guest he has Larry McKay, a older blues singer from Baycity, come out for a couple songs. The strangest thing about the show was that at then end of each song a roadie would come out with a different guitar. I’ve heard that players will have a few guitars on stage tuned to different keys. But that wasn’t the cause, turns out Bonamassa collects old guitars and this was his way to play with some of them. The show was at the Fox, which is always a show in itself. A good time was had be all.

It’d going to be hard for the Dems to hold on to anything given how the media leans right. Even the FNYT favors the fascists in the Republican party. The January 6th committee has a scant year to finish their investigation. And when they do I hope that they will make a criminal referral to Donald J, Trump, insurrectionist,

I had a long discussion with a friend over the Kamala-Mayor Pete dust-up. Just news stories, not quoting anyone, and the jist of it is that Biden isn’t including Kamala in much of anything and Pete Buttigieg is being groomed for the 2024 VP slot, and if Joe just wears out, Pete will be the 2024 standard bearer. I am all for this. If for any reason Joe peters out before his first term concludes, of course Kamala will be President and will be the 2024 nominee. Joe is slowly climbing in the polls, finally, and he has a long way to go, in time and numbers to achieve.
Trump will be the 2024 candidate, that low snake, that no good cheat. The entire party is so damned scared of Trump, only Liz Cheney spoke out.

The press is ganging up on this administration about its “messaging” just as it did during the Obama years. Obama didn’t make a clear case for the ACA, they said, but then how could he be heard above the din of misinformation getting equal or better time from the same outlets? Yesterday Dan Balz of the Washington Post wasted considerable space faulting Biden for being an ineffectual communicator. Evidently it wouldn’t occur to Balz: How can any president (other than one who hurls petty insults on Twitter to a rapt audience of goobers) be heard in a media environment where the mainstream press is lazy and gives bad-faith actors the benefit of the doubt? A mainstream press that’s in competition with a right-wing agitprop operation that has nearly half the country living in a counterfactual alternate reality?

If the liberal media had any sense, you could show them a straight line from “we have to appear unbiased” to reporters going to jail if they don’t print the regime’s propaganda releases. They don’t believe it could happen here. I just wonder what will happen if T***p dies before taking office after the last election in 2024.

Liberal media my foot. Top headline in the FW Journal-Gazette this morning is “Ex-Biden advisers pan travel ban”. Disgusted, I am.

We watched the second episode of the Beatles documentary by Peter Jackson. It’s so long but so fascinating. Someone in a review referred to Yoko as John’s “comfort person” which seems pretty accurate as she never seems to leave his side. Ever. I am looking forward to episode 3.

And why is it that no TV newscast goes by without telling us again to buy our Christmas presents early because everything is on those stupid container ships? How about looking at alternatives, like buying from local craftspeople, secondhand, tickets to events, or even no gifts at all. And then covering some real news for a change.

Today we are visiting the local home of the boy wizard, having wrangled gratis admission. I haven’t been to that park since before Harry moved in and figure I should see it once, which should be enough.

When the CEO of Walmart said they’re all stocked and should have no problems and by the way he thanks Joe for helping to get the container ships unloaded you could have heard a pin drop. Nobody said a damned thing. Our gas prices are down $.25 a gallon in this past week and they weren’t all that high in the first place and you hear nothing.

That’s funny about Soros. I haven’t talked about it here much, but a Deadline Detroit contributor and friend of our editor was recently sprung from six months in a Myanmar prison. There was a great deal of concern for him, of course, as his detention was basically for doing journalism in a military dictatorship.

Anyway, our editor did a long video interview with him, and asked if him, Danny, being Jewish affected his treatment behind bars in any way. Danny said no, except that everyone asked him about George Soros. He said, “We don’t all know each other, you know.” The propaganda must have spread far and wide.

My very right wing brother was going on and on a while back about Soros. He was rather taken aback when I told him that Soros is considered the bogeyman because he’s Jewish. He had no idea but happily repeated anti-Soros, anti-Semitic talking points. I imagine he’s not the only one doing this.

I remember my RW sister emailing me about Soros years ago, she acted like I worshiped him. When I told her that I barely knew anything about him and that he wasn’t on my radar screen, she either was surprised or didn’t believe me.

LB and I spent the whole GD day fixing the dishwasher, turns out we had a clogged hose that wasn’t allowing the water to drain. I watched a You Tube video about how to take it all apart and use baking soda, white vinegar and boiling water, also had to use a turkey baster to suck out water from the inside floor of the washer. I was pretty proud of us, that we figured it out and managed to fix it ourselves.

Keep your eye on the Supreme Court. That’s where the real dirty GQP doin’s are going to come from over the next year. Gun regulation? Dunzo. Abortion? Oh, my sweet summer child.

“Nondelegation” Look it up; the GOP Shitty Six are planning to undo the 20th Century. Clean water? Untainted meat? Fair trade? Don’t make me laugh.

Those of us not living in MAGAtWorld will stumble along trying to retain as much of the Enlightenment as we can. For the rest of y’all? Enjoy the 14th Century. Come for the Plague, stay for the lack of sanitation!

I’m just effing sick of how the news is reported and what is actually happening. The goon squad women of the GOP, Mike Flynn displaying his deteriorating sanity, the normalization of uncivilized behavior…it’s all beyond politics. It’s about making critical thinking optional.

Amen to FDChief. We say we are a democracy, where we elect those we believe will best represent our interests. Such a wonderful fairy tale. Such bullshit.

We are largely at the mercy of well-funded adversaries who buy the political influence we proles can only imagine. They have tilted every aspect of our society to benefit themselves, but still they want more. And key to keeping and growing their power are acquiescent courts, which they’ve bought and paid for.

Women are going to lose the right to control their own destinies. The LBGQT community will be marginalized by the needs of “religious freedom,” where the invisible sky god tells them gays are icky. Journalism will be hog-tied when old Silent Clarence Thomas pushes to relitigate New York Times vs. Sullivan. Environmentalists will be crushed by industries. Not even the most mild form of gun control will be allowed.

All this despite solid majorities of Americans being in favor of them.

So, yeah. We’re a democracy. Just like Hungary, Russia, Turkey, etc.

So back in the day, when my mom would hear the news that this or that celebrity had passed away – she’d say “Awwww” and hold forth on how wonderful he/she was in this movie and that show – etc.

Nowadays, when I hear of yet another mass-shooting – especially at a school – I do the same.

And indeed, the latest is in Michigan, and is still “breaking”….

It is grimly amusing that Emmanuel Goldstein is the recipient of the ‘two minutes of hate’ in 1984.

I’m sure, Jeff. I find myself saying, “I don’t get it,” far too often these days. I don’t get why people feel the need to own guns, refuse vaccination, believe Q shit, worship the twice impeached guy. Ok if you like to go deer hunting ok. But AR 15s? I have lived in sketchy parts of several big cities. Never needed a gun. Never thought I needed a gun. I don’t get it.

I have lived in Miami, Houston, Dallas, St. Louis and Chicago and have lived in some sketchy neighborhoods in some of them. Never thought in a million years that a gun was necessary for protection. Guns scare me, I don’t want to have anything to do with them.

I’ve lived in other places too but they’re lesser cities/towns.
