We had a “buskerfest” last night in downtown Ft Wayne. Juggling giraffes, fire dancers, artists of all kinds, hula hoop people, music and LOADS of people . People came in droves- bikes locked to every vertical surface, kids hanging out of trees. We bicyclists are going to lose our best kept secret- downtown at night with its’ outside tables, beer and pizza.

These guys started out as buskers, got fairly big, then wound up busking again. I think Gerry Rafferty is a missing person now, possibly dead. I always thought this was a sweet little pop tune:

I love the saxophone too, but I give the nod to the San Francisco Bush Man…he just scares the holy fuck out of people…he’s a great performing artist; who needs sparkly mimes anyway? AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!! Believe me…he’s a scary sumbitch.

Several members of Pink Floyd used to busk outside their own shows to see if they’d be recognized – which they most often weren’t.

Christian Science Monitor says the Palins story is baloney. Fun to read, though.

Looks like the Seattle Times needs better reporters:

Perhaps this reporter could work for Bonner Consultants in Washington D.C. They both seem to be good at making things up.
And further depressing news on the current state of journanimalism:

Tomorrow we leave for 18 days in Scandinavia (Finland and Sweden). I’m going to miss you guys. No cell phones, no e-mail, no computers at all. I’m not sure I’ll survive. A step back in time. But I’m super excited about this trip.

The Indy race in Kentucky this evening was excellent entertainment. Ed Carpenter and Ryan Briscoe did it wheel to wheel for the last several laps to the finish. Briscoe won because his car was a tad better out of turn four than Carpenter’s. Great racing and great driving by the two of them. Then in the post race interview, that puke, that total piece of shit Tony George had this to say about his driver: “I hope Ed didn’t leave anything on the table.” The only reason Bernie E. deserves a deeper place is that Bernie plays on a bigger stage.

Boy, Deborah’s going to be disappointed that Finland and Sweden have more cell phones, e-mail, and computers than we do.

@jcburns: …especially Finland, land of Nokia. I remember a New Yorker story from about 7 years ago that stated it was mandatory for five and six year old kiddies to pack a cell phone to school for emergencies or whatever might come up.
Those kids were trained on phones as soon as possible. And as for me…who didn’t have a home phone as a kid, and the neighbor had a party line, and we didn’t get a phone until I was 12, I now Tweet like a little yellow bird every chance I get, but I still prefer talking to texting.

Have a good time, Deborah. We’ll miss you. Right about now I’m wishing I didn’t own a computer. Maybe I could get back to sleep if it weren’t here whispering my name at nearly 3 AM.

“I’m aware of no proof that Sarah and Todd Palin were married to begin with. I insist on seeing the certified vault copy of their long-form marriage certificate. When all they have to do is release it to quell these ugly rumors, their failure to do so is highly suspicious.”
