Who loves me, baby?

The new issue of Wired just arrived in my mailbox, addressed to me in my three-part married name — which I only use in bylines. I didn’t order it. Did you?

Take credit, so I can thank ya proper.

OK, Nancy, I’ll ‘fess up. I bought you a gift subscription to Wired. It was really expensive, too.

Oh, and if you get any flowers or chocolates or anything like that, I sent those too. If your fortunate husband says he did … well, you’ll know better.

(Just kidding, of course. Didn’t buy you nuthin’. I don’t suppose your address as I know it — “somewhere in one of the Grosse Pointes” — would get anything to your door anyway.)

Hmmm… Did you sign up for a Mediabistro membership recently? I did a while back, and then suddenly Wired started showing up in my mailbox, too. I think they must be giving away subs as a membership incentive? (in which case perhaps they oughta publicize it a bit better, if you ask me…)

Yup. That was it. Which explains the full-byline address label.
