Even the owner of the drowned Hummer admits it was “stupid” to test his vehicle’s amphibious capabilities after a recent storm, but the rest of us can still enjoy a chuckle over it, can’t we?
From the Free Press, with a helpful story on why you shouldn’t assume your car can swim.

I sort of expect people who are dumb enough to fall for the TV commercials to be dumb enough to try something like this.
I few years ago, I saw a twenty-something woman in business attire try to drive a Jeep Cherokee over a huge pile of snow pushed up in the corner of a parking lot by snow plows. The Cherokee ended up balanced atop the snow pile, all four wheels in the air, and with a good three-foot drop from the door to the steeply-angled icy surface. She couldn’t even get out of the car. She sat there with the door open, screaming with rage. As soon as I could stop laughing, I waved bye-bye and drove away.

Oh Bob, that story is priceless! I imagine her trapped in the Jeep until the mound melts!

that is, indeed, priceless. nance, maybe you can work this scene into your next screenplay. it would KILL.
re the freep column, my favorite part was learning that the columnist — after digging up all this information about how stupid it is to drive through standing water — proceeds do drive through standing water. cautiously, of course, but still. and now he needs a brake job. duh.

Spend 20 years in the army, as I did and one will lose any fascination with the Humvee.
