Grr, part II.

I’m not posting anything tonight because I hate either:

1) My internet provider;
2) My broadband modem;
3) Something else that screws up my connection for hours at a time, requiring that I disconnect everything, chant incantations over it and try again.

So we’ll try for something tomorrow.

P.S. I only had two margaritas yesterday. One peach, one mango. Mmmm.

    We had a poor tech at our high-speed internet support line on the phone for an hour and a half the other night, trying to figure out why we had no service, only to finally figure out it was our firewall, Zone Alarm. Seems it isn’t compatible with our new router modem. Worked fine with the old one, but periodically disallows access to the Internet with the new modem.

    I’m hearing stories about that after people succumb to the MS XP Service Pack 2 update. Their system is so safe from the web they can’t even connect. I’m waiting a bit.

    Ten days since Frances, and I’m still waiting for electricity in West Palm Beach.

    I’m at peace with it.

    Florida Power and Light promises I’ll have power and light by Saturday.

    Yeah, it was the evening after I installed the service pack 2, or it installed itself, I should say. I found it downloading itself without my even clicking on anything to get it started. I’ve never had that happen before, the updates usually always give me a message for me to choose to install them.

    But since we uninstalled Zone Alarm, there have been no more problems.

    Linda, I have XP service pack 2 installed, but have used Norton Personal Firewall and Norton Anti-virus for my security since I built this system 2 years ago. So far, no attacks or intrusion attempts that I know of have succeeded against my system, and I haven’t experienced any connection problems with my DSL service. I’m about to replace my router with a wireless one, so we’ll see what happens then.
