Another image from New York: Turtle Pond is in Central Park. Just as the latter is so named because it’s a park in the center of Manhattan, Turtle Pond is, duh, full of turtles. I mean: Crammed. I don’t know how they manage the population, if at all, but I do know that the occupants of Turtle Pond have learned about hanging around the dock where people throw food into the water. Like carp, or pigeons, or seagulls, they’re urban survivors. Photo by Kate.

Tell Kate, very nice. We’re glad Mom did not use the photo without proper attribution. After all, a possible future photog needs to build her portfolio.

it is indeed a well-done picture, I still don’t see any reason to go to New York City though…

Made me think to go look at a wonderful daily photo site:
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html
which i mean to look at every day but don’t always get to. If you’re looking today (Sunday), try to figure what you’re looking at before you scroll down. When you do, and then look at the shot again, there’s a fascinating “click-hmmmm” that goes on in your head as you try to grind your perspective gears into place.

There’s a japanese garden at the Botanic Gardens in Brooklyn that’s also turtle nirvana, plus carp. They do tend to hang around the pilings of the tea pavilion, even though you’re not supposed to feed them.

Re: link above; today you’ll have to click the left arrow below the picture to go to Sunday’s shot. I’m thinking pan of rolls or twist bread . . .
