Does anyone know how to get the popular blogging platforms — Blogger, Typepad, WordPress — to cough up the municipality or zip code their hosted blogs originate from? Because I’m trying to compile a list of Grosse Pointe bloggers, and have a hard time believing the list begins and ends with me and the principal at North High School.
And yes, I have danced with Google until my feet are sore.
And yes, if you know someone in the 48236 and 48230 zips who does this, I expect you to let me know.

I think it’s not so much a hardware/software issue, and more a matter of whether the bloggers have bothered to enter such data into the published (that is, searchable) spaces of the blog. My ZIP’s obviously part of my account for billing purposes, but it’s not anything I really want out there in the ether for anyone to find, so if I’m searchable by it I’d be really surprised.
You’d probably have better luck just Googling for “Grosse Point blog” or using Technorati to see who else is linking to you and the principal.

Also, opencongress.org has local blogrolls for each representative… that might work.

Have you gone to Google News, Searched for Grosse Pointe and then clicked “Blogs” in the left hand column?

Drive around your neighborhood streets systematically with a “do you have a blog?” sign taped to your car windows. Or, uh, make a public announcement of your curiosity in your local Starbucks in an extremely loud voice.

I think jc’s Starbucks suggestion might produce the best results. Or maybe make the same announcement at the local unemployment office.
