Think Ron Reagan Jr. made any friends in the White House this weekend?
From his remarks Friday night at his father’s burial:
Dad was also a deeply, unabashedly religious man. But he never made the fatal mistake of so many politicians wearing his faith on his sleeve to gain political advantage. True, after he was shot and nearly killed early in his presidency, he came to believe that God had spared him in order that he might do good. But he accepted that as a responsibility, not a mandate. And there is a profound difference.

Yeah, I picked up on that as well and thought “Good for him!”
So. You back in the fort?

I don’t want to disrespectful to the Reagan family, but I did notice Ronnie, Jr. had a wife at the funeral. Can someone enlighten me about this situation? I recall him doing the Tom Cruise “Risky Businesss” dance on SNL, but haven’t heard much from him in 15-ish years.

I seem to recall he had a hastily arranged marriage back in the ’80s when the press started making too big a to-do about the fact he’s a ballet dancer. Mary Cheney evidently has more ballsor I should say gumption, if she thinks she can snooker gay people into hiding under the big revival tent that is the GOP.

Well, surely, when RRJr. got married hurry-up quick after his dad’s election, I assumed he was bearding it, too. But to be sure, his marriage has lasted more than 20 years, long past when he could have safely and quietly ended it, if it were a sham. From what I’ve read, they have a cozy, childless life with lots of pets — RRJr. does color commentary on dog shows.
Just another reminder: The only people qualified to judge a marriage are the people in it. (Although we all expressunqualified opinions sometimes.)

True enough. It would only be fair to rush to judgment if he got caught with his pants down like Pee Wee Herman or George Michael. Twenty years is damn respectable for any kind of marriage.

I am not casting stones, but merely (probably morbidly so) curious. I give the second-hand famous a big break for their private lives.
RR, Jr. has been below my radar for a long time and just surprised me to see him married. I guess I should watch more dog shows, but after “Best in Show”, I figured I had already seen it all.

Ron Jr. also has been doing some commentary and stories for TV’s “Hardball,” and he’s pretty good.
