All it does in this town is snow. While that’s good news for some people — the Great Lakes are up 18 inches, huzzah huzzah — it’s not good news for those of us yearning for spring. Last night we had about three inches. Today we’re getting about three more. Tomorrow? Perhaps more fun is in store.
Normally I don’t mind snow — a white landscape is far preferable to a brown, dead, winter-killed landscape — but this year I have 120 feet of driveway and one shovel.

This has been a pretty decent winter for me. After the last significant snow we had last winter, three high-school boys came down the street with shovels, looking for work. I hired them and they did a good job on my corner lot with lots of sidewalk and a two-car driveway.
This winter, they’ve showed up hot on the heels of every snowstorm, eager to make a few bucks. They always do a thorough job, and they accomplish in about ten – fifteen minutes what would take me an hour and a half and leave me worn out for the rest of the day.

I feel your pain, Nance. My new driveway’s long enough I’d be worn out even if I had a snowblower. Good thing there’s a guy down the road who goes looking for work whenever it snows. He’s got a pickup with a plow on it and charges only $20.

Nance, what you really need is this. You could use probably even use one of the PTO’s for running a rotary driven latte machine!

hey and speaking of winter killed landscapes, Nance,
remember how you ALWAYS refer to Indiana as hopelessly “backwards” and provincial? I begin to agree, but your premise (Indiana=GOP=red state= backwards), note that it’s the damned Democrats who are obstructing even VOTING on any of the bills, including the time zone thing.

Nance, that sounds like the beginning of a math problem:
Let’s see, hmmm, 120 feet of driveway times, what, 10 feet wide, times 9 inches of snow equals how many cubic feet of snow? And if you have one shovel, how far into March will you be cleaning it all off?
It’s sunny and sixty in Austin today. But it’ll be August soon enough.
