Fun for the Funksters.

Thanks to Undercover Black Man for singling out my kind of cultural anniversary — the 40th anniversary of the release of “(I Wanna) Testify” by the Parliaments, soon to become Parliament, then Parliament/Funkadelic and, for my money, the most sublime force in funk music ever.

However, UBM went above and beyond when he assembled no fewer than six versions of the song, with embedded sound, so you can compare and contrast. As George Clinton says, we will return it to you as soon as you are groovin’. So get groovin’.

The original is OK, but I really liked Mary Microgram’s slightly-Janice-Joplin-esque turn the best.

Anyway, a groovin’ way to finish out the Monday

Thanks, Nancy, for pointing some folks my way. I see you been diggin’ on some Buddy Miles… That version of “Down By the River” lays me out!
