Sunday afternoon shopping.

Art gallery in a former police precinct. Another Detroit attraction.

Banksy, too:

Hmmm with crime what it is in the Motor City, shouldn’t the precinct be used as a jail? Just sayin. I mean an art gallery is cool but whatcha bet it will get robbed?

    Very cool stuff.

Fort Wayne has an Old City Hall building which is essentially a castle, complete with an honest-to-goodness dungeon. It was the city jail right up until the early 1970’s

And “bitewatcher” – if you aren’t Danny – it would be nice if you’d take it down a notch, and also be at least polite to our proprietress.

And if you ARE Danny (as seems likely), you know better than this, it seems to me

The High Line in Chelsea, NYC, is an elevated park fashioned along an abandoned railway line. You will see all sorts of art along the corridor. Here is an example. ( I post on Facebook sometimes with an art student in New York, who is the daughter of a friend…she says The High Line park is a great place to enjoy al fresco art…another friend in NYC also loves The High Line as a place to refresh an appreciation of impromptu as well as exhibited art.)

I don’t care where Nitewatcher lives, but I’m growing weary of the constant sniping between him and Prospero. I deleted one of P’s comments a little while ago, and I’m going to start cracking down on this. Behave, kids. Don’t make me stop this blog.

That’s not the point. The point is, this is not that sort of blog. I get every comment as an email, and I have better things to do than watch a stupid slapfight. Also, no more than two links to a comment, or it goes to spam. I deleted the last one, because you were trying to start another one. Everyone simmer down, please.

Brian, you really don’t know how to read people do you? And given that absurd misunderstanding that you promulgated the other day, I am really starting to question your reading comprehension, in general.

I’m sure that you’d like to continue to come off as Mr. Affable Avuncularity, but I think we both know that that is not true. YMMV.

brian – we saw “Lincoln” yesterday and I found it remarkable! So many details absolutely delighted me and I want to see it again sometime soon. It should be required viewing for every middle school and high school aged student, IMHO. Also, we saw “Ruby Sparks” via Netflix on Friday and really enjoyed it as well. We’re on a streak! No awful movies in quite some time. Argo and Skyfall were really entertaining. Still hoping to catch “The Sessions” soon but it’s only at the Drexel right now and the show times were not convenient. I’ll probably have to catch it through Netflix. Did anyone see Dustin Hoffman talking about the movie he directed called “Quartet”? It opens Jan. 11th. Maggie Smith is in it. That’s another one on my list.

And so ends Dorothy’s Movie Wrap Up for December 9, 2012.

I was going to say a little about the shitty discourse between Nitewatcher and Prospero the other day but Nancy’s comments seem to be sufficient. Suffice to say you’re not making many new friends here, though, Mr. Nite.

When our kids went to the old City Hall, now the History Center, they got to go sit in the basement jail cell for a few minutes. It’s dark and dank, and altogether not a pleasant experience. I’d be all too happy for our snipers to have a session there. A long session.

Dorothy, I’m excited about Quartet too, very much looking forward to Les Miserables, and will undoubtedly get hauled along to the Hobbit. This afternoon we went to a marvelous Christmas concert by the chamber chorale our son is in. They sing meaty stuff and I really enjoy that. There was one moment when they hit a chord that resonated through the building and our bodies, and it was downright spine-tingling.

Slightly before my time — I jumped on the SS Nall around 2005, although she was a favorite columnist when i lived in Ft. wayne fron 88-90. I remember sitting at the outside of out local Rogers Market waiting for the box to be filled, and I remember when the N-S was hands down the best newspaper in The Fort. Now the once Pulitzer Price winning newsroom is filled with potted plants, Kevin, and a secretary who I suspect actually runs the place…

Maybe if we want to know who nitewatcher is we should ask him.
My guess would be Dwight if he’s an imposter. But I don’t think that either.
So, nitewatcher, who are you? You popped in a few days ago and went after the most obvious target, but left Cooz alone. So, either you picked up on Pros right away but didn’t notice that it’s Cooz who’s the biggest lightning rod around here (stop laughing, Cooz, there’s no double meaning there), or, you’ve been following long enough to know that Cooz will just turn whatever you say around and destroy you with words.
Plus, your voice hasn’t been quite consistent over the short period you’ve been commenting.
So, tell us a little bit about yourself. And it goes without saying, don’t be vulgar, dear.

Meanwhile, Mrs. B and I went to a really impressive photo exhibit today, “Elvis at 21” – RCA assigned a photographer to follow him around when he first signed with them & instead of the usual front of stage shots and grip & grins this guy got all journalistic, and artsy too. It’s in Nashville right now and will be in Columbus in a few weeks, http://160.111.252.141/elvis/

Sue : im no imposter. I a guy age 50 married who lives in Northern Idaho. Yes its very conservative, very very pro 2nd amendment. All good things for me & my way of thinking. I found this blog while reading the post on the citadel blog. The people posting on the citadel blog sometimes there names lead to a profile thing, You know same as here. I clicked on one of the names there & poof here I was on what seems (is) a very liberal slanted blog. Right or wrong on that? I noticed here that it was ok to rip on the conservative people like Rush, Wayne L Hannity etc. So I thought Id fire back a few mild rounds myself. Not meaning to piss anyone off until “swimmer boy” came charging. I do not support the idea of the citadel people. I hear all the time about Idaho the “racist” state. SPLC.org will prove we are not. 🙂 Im not sure what your 2nd to last line means? I dont type as well as most of you here I have huge hands and this laptop is tiny in the keyboard department. What else Sue? Mothers maiden name ? shoe size? How many guns do I have? Please ask anything you care to. Or anyone else for that matter. Ps I didnt think “hippie ass” was being vulger. after all Ive seen plenty of hippie ass working in Marin. Where I used to live BFD

Nitewatcher, this is a genteel blog of our hostess, most everyone gets along, sometimes things get a little ribald but shouting matches usually get shut down. We came here by varying means, I personally was a fan of her newspaper column back when. I think it’s safe to say that most of us are rather like-minded to some degree, but not always. Still, nobody here goes for flame wars. Others will express it better than I.

Dorothy, is that the Drexel in Bexley on East Broad Street? I had no idea that movie theater was still in business. Was there many times going back many years ago now, I shudder to think how long.

Oh nit at 21, ypu’re so cute. Unlike Conservatives Liberals don’t live for the enemies they have. We’re positive about the things we believe in. And if you’d been reading this blog for any length of time you’d know we have our conservatives, and they’re not token but welcome members of the community.

Nitewatcher, there are a few conservatives here (I am one of them) and we could use another voice in my reckoning. As long as that voice is (mostly) respectful and doesn’t stir the pot too much, it’s cool. Nancy is good people and she doesn’t like it too echo-y with only one side expressing opinions. On the other hand, she doesn’t want Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome either.

By and large, we get along here unless it is election time or something else politically charged is going on… or I post something… or really anything.

And I wouldn’t get to concerned (not that you are) about people calling for your ban. I have had that honor on many occasions. Basset, who was calling for your ban, regularly takes Prospero to task for his familiar diatribes. I presume that Basset’s main beef is he likes it a little more civil around here, in general.

So you’re right. It’s a very liberal leaning blog, but it can be fun here too. Feel free to join us token conservatives so that the others can feel all cool and inclusive.

I lived in Marin for a few years and never noticed that it was particularly conservative. Quite the contrary. If you’re looking for left over hippie asses, may I suggest Arcata?

I like the divergent opinions and don’t even mind the occasional spat as long as nobody messes up my living room. I tend to stay out of disputes although I’ve had a couple of dust ups.

MMJeff, twenty year old equipment on a fifty year old body? Please share your secret.

Well BS (since were using abbreviations for names) Ive only just found this place what 4 days ago. My main fun was with an obviously intoxicated “pros… aka swimmer boy” So exactly what is your beef with me? not that I really care I should be in bed last day of elk season is tomorrow. But its cold and snowing. Does make it easy to track animals in case you ever wanted to go elk hunting. Its actually a wonderful way to get to get hormone free meat. great exercise. great way to to use my 2nd amendment right. So you see I can be a rather interesting fellow too if given the chance.
So if you stick around around & play nice with others you & everyone else well get to know me better & I you. have a good nite all 🙂

Usually when someone shows up here with an act like yours they get ignored and go away before long.

Elk tags are pretty hard to get here in Tennessee, I think there were just seven or eight issued last year. I have gone out into the mountains and helped the biologists count ’em, though, they are quite a sight in the wild. No tracking snow where I am today but I am working on getting whitetail number four this season, maybe as soon as Friday if I can get enough done at work this week.

See Basset we actually do have something in common. Go figure. No elk for me this year. no biggie as I still have some from last year. Plus I got a monster white tail last month. Im having him mounted. Hes probably a 160 or so biggest buck Ive ever shot. Theres times here when we’ll have 30 + out in the field. So only active tag still is my wolf tag so hunting season continues. Just to clear something up… what does this mean ” Usually when someone shows up here with an act like yours…” im confussed as what act im bringing here?

Think of a coffeehouse where everyone is sitting around discussing this and that when suddenly the door slams open and a large, loud intruder stomps in, sweeps a few cups off tables, starts calling names (“libs” and “swimmer boy” come to mind), then claims he’s just havin’ “fun,” “you can’t throw me out,” and if we “play nice,” we can “stick around.”

The hell with that, I for one don’t want to get to know you better because you don’t appear to have anything to say other than “look at me.”. Pros at least says something interesting once in awhile even if it is in gin-Hittite half the time.
