I give up.

I thought we might have a day to discuss Melania’s feelings about Christmas decorations before something else barreled into the center ring, but apparently we’re to be denied even this.

POTUS and FLOTUS have The Bug. The weekend awaits. See you on the other side. Discuss.

I saw the news about Hope Hicks at about 9 PM last night, just before Maddow came on. I have to admit I did not really give it much thought that 45 and the Christmas hater would have it. But oh brother – what news to wake up to!

Much as I want to savor the schadenfreude, I can’t help but suspect that this is a scheme to let Trump exit a race he knows he’s going to lose badly. Maybe they think they can postpone the election. Or maybe they think a Pence/Haley ticket would be more competitive, even at the eleventh hour. It all remains to be seen.

In any case, I hope they find a way to prevent that sonofabitch from lying in state if he really does have COVID.

I am extremely skeptical that any of them have it. Trump bombed so badly in the debate that even my 85 year old mother who voted for him in 2016 and thinks Melania is wonderful was appalled at his behavior. On top of that, Trump’s former campaign manager beats his wife, brandishes a gun, and threatens the cops. On top of that, this tape appears with Melania the sweet stating how bothered she is by having to do f***ing Christmas.
So, the easy out is “We’re sick!” Keeps them under wraps until the GOP leadership can figure out how to spin this, makes attacks less likely (how can you go after sick people, you swine!), and god knows what else is going on behind the scenes.
In short, until proven otherwise, I am not buying it.

My initial reaction in the wee hours was that it was a ploy, but I think not now. The right wing is freaking out about how libs are mocking Trump about not being able to protect the country much less himself, that libs should be sending thoughts and prayers for someone in harm’s way, to that I say BS, just watch the video of Trump in 2016 when he mercilessly mocked Hillary when she had the flu. I for one hope Trump has to be ventilated like Boris Johnson did. I don’t want him to die, I just want him to have to feel what 200,000+ had to face, maybe he’ll learn some humanity. PJ will probably come on here and concern troll me for saying that.

Also read about Melania’s tape and Kimberly Guilfoyle’s Fox exit, and had a hard time falling back asleep. A *presidency built on a mountain of lies results in at least half the country thinking this may well be a hoax. He’s getting killed in the polls. His appalling debate performance shook the GOP. His inability to decry white supremacists plays poorly to all but hardcore racists.

One way out is to resign. He’d avoid the embarrassment of a blowout loss, Pence pardons him and the rest of the crooks, etc.

Another theory I saw is that this is a ploy to hide Trump’s cognitive decline. Either way, I don’t know that it will help him–but I am preparing for the “how dare you criticize our president when he is fighting for his life” takes. This is a guy who knowingly exposed hundreds of people to the virus. They knew Hicks was positive and he still went to a fundraiser. Also, the Trump family refused to wear masks at the debate even though Ohio requires masks inside.

Late in yesterday’s thread somehow IVF came up. This is a familiar topic with my family. In July my daughter-in-law had eggs retrieved (all of which were frozen), and coming up later this month they are transferring the first fertilized egg. They have several. It’s a very tough thing to go through and certainly not for sissies. Please send positive vibes our way that this produces a baby in 9 months or so. They had their daughter through IUI. Other attempts at IUI resulted in one miscarriage and several unsuccessful results. As someone who got pregnant very easily (two live births, two miscarriages), this has introduced to me a whole new vocabulary and appreciation for what infertile couples go through.

Except that we had to drive 10 miles away when there’s a location within walking distance that’s closed during Covid, the system they had set up was amazingly efficient. Since we’re senior citizens even though there was a long line we got right in. Everyone was kind and helpful, there was no barking instructions like TSA does. My husband is at Uncle J’s and it’s a horrific scene. Uncle J is in terrible pain, doesn’t know what is going on, keeps trying to get out of bed. They are giving him morphine for the pain and that mercifully knocks him out. When the morphine wears off he howls in pain. They have a hospital bed for him and they have the sides up to help keep him from climbing out. Someone is always by his bedside to try to calm him down and keep him safe. It’s a horrendous situation. They have 4 cargivers there at all times now and a registered nurse comes in and out. His having Alzheimer’s and not understanding his situation has made this exponentially worse. He doesn’t ever want to be in an institution, he made that very clear earlier on in his disease and they’re doing everything they can to honor that. So sad.

I disagree Suzanne, at first I thought it could be a distraction but now I think not. Trump has been trying to keep Covid out of the news for months, now that’s impossible. This whole scenario makes him look even more irresponsible and unable to protect us, it’s obvious he can’t even protect himself. The fact that he’s got to be in the hospital must be anathema for him. I thought he looked bad in the short video they made of him addressing the country about his health situation, it was uncommonly brief, he usually likes to shoot his mouth off. If it’s true that he’s a germophobe he must be terrified. Summoning the strength to walk to the helicopter and then off of it probably took all of his acting skills, he was dressed in a suit and tie and his hair was coifed so that took an effort by him and his handlers. Why did they transport him by air? We probably won’t see anymore photos of him for a while.

I timed it perfectly to watch “Comey Rule” on Showtime. The casting and makeup are astounding, except trying to make Jeff Daniels 6’8″ and making us fall into believing he is Jim Comey was hard to do.
They surely got Trump right. They played up the whole golden showers/Moscow angle and portrayed Trump as the horrid human he is, in many ways. When niece Mary Trump and many others say Trump is only for Trump, this docu-drama makes you believe it. It’s based on Comey’s book. Highly recommended.

I’ve seen the current SCOTUS nominee referred to as “Contagious ACB” also “Amy Coney Island” because it’s all just a ridiculous carnival. Do you think she’s humiliated by the horrendous super spreader event in her honor?

How fitting that the campaign to force the vote on the new supreme court justice before the election started with a superspreader event at the WH that is threatening the life of the president and has infected a shitload of his enablers.

No joke, if they’re giving trump dexamethasone, the 25th amendment should be invoked. That shit fucks with you. It was part of the regimen with my IVF attempts, and it was awful, so much so that when my doctor was talking with me about whether I would do a third round, he offered to do a round without it.

After a cold and a cough wasn’t going away my doctor gave me something that really messed with my head. I don’t remember what it was but it took a while for that feeling to wear off after I completed the prescription.

That report about Claudia Conway could be premature, she and her dad got tested but haven’t yet gotten the results. But reports are all over the map so who knows. And reports on Trump’s current condition are even more confusing, it sounds serious though. I’m reading that Jared is taking over the whitehouse telling Pence what to do. Now I’ve got to quit reading again. I understand season 6 of Schitt’s Creek is on Netflix.

Moscow Mitch isn’t gonna let a pandemic prevent him from installing Justice Handmaiden. He and the Senate are ignoring everything else — especially another aid package for our battered and very sick nation. Fucking pricks.

I’ve seen enough doctors on television saying that the antibody treatment, the remdesivir, and the steroid treatment would not be happening if the pres only had a mild case. I’m so sick of all of this shit. I listened to Jason Miller, some toady who works on the campaign, refuse to give anything resembling a straight answer to some fairly basic yes or no questions. He did manage to criticize Biden somehow with his word salad non answers.

Kevin Drum takes dexamethasone as part of his cancer treatment. From time to time he takes about it, calls it the “Evil Dex.”

Wasn’t Twitter threatening to ban people who expressed a hope that Trump would die? So much for free speech (I know, private Co, blah blah blah. but there is a differencec between hoping something bad happening and organizing a march on Kenosha….

Next time I’m sick with anything at all I’m gonna have myself driven around the block wearing a mask and waving at the neighbors.
