Just what we need.

Well, this is alarming.

Wait. Didn’t I say no more election-related posting unless it was funny? Sorry about that.

Tuesday, eh. A bleah day made less so by mild temperatures and not too much extra work, except for a million phone calls, the left sleeve of Kate’s costume and an apple pie. For my colleagues. I made a peach pie last summer and have been fending off requests for an apple until tonight. What the hell, I make a good pie. Why not share one with my colleagues once a season. It’s such a cinch, if you don’t mind flour all over your kitchen.

Is there anything to talk about this week that isn’t election-related? Maybe the World Series. On which I should probably keep my mouth shut.

So you all discuss what you want in the comments, including that scary story about Ohio.

Oh, Nancy, you have got to read this:

    “Goths for Bush”

    http://www.pipelinenews.org/bbs/gothbush.html

“We are forming this Goth Republican Band to help elect George Bush to continue the sadness.”

I realize mentioning this guy (or any other pro-Bush pundit, but especially apostate liberals) around here is like waving a crucifix in front of a bunch of vampires (little Halloween allusion, there), but I liked this

Maybe I’m just a cranky person, but nothing about this election is funny anymore. The Ohio story is really really discouraging, isn’t it?

I dunno, Mary. I thought it was funny that Mary Poppins had registered in Ohio.

Not really, no. In all seriousness, I’ve no doubt we’ll muddle through, somehow. Ohio’s election result may not ultimately matter, depending what happens in Iowa, Minnesota, and/or Wisconsin.

But in any case, and I mean this sincerely, the story out of Toledo Ohio, where they had a completely terrible house fire, is “the Ohio story” that has had me knocked off my pins this week.

I saw some of the absolute worst, most wrenching news video of a firefighter carrying an apparently dead child out of the building, and while two other firefighters forcefully restrained an adult family member (mom?). I was pretty much sickened

Think the Ohio thing is bad? They’re facing a similar thing in Florida. Again.

Check out the following link, and follow the story from there. Cracks me up.

are any of you voting early to avoid the mayhem on tuesday? my husband did it already — he’ll be working a 16-hour shift election day — and that’s if he’s lucky — so he wanted to get it out of the way. the clerk at our village hall handed him a ballot, ushered him into a private room and let him have at it, no questions asked. i’m doing it myself tomorrow. vote now and avoid the rush.

    Brian,

You might want to check out Christopher Hitchens endorsing Kerry at Slate.com. Yes, same guy, different – what? day? readership? bottle? (sorry)

I’ll steer clear of the political discussion.

But I will say that Nancy’s apple pie really kicked ass.
