Well, I wouldn’t put a bumper sticker on the paint, but on the other hand, the person that drives that car would be fun to gab with at lunchtime

Looks like he or she keeps the car clean, though. I wouldn’t put a bumper sticker on my car at all, let alone on the paint. It’s asking for trouble. The ones I really don’t understand are the people who put those gay rainbow things on their cars. Too many gay bashers out there.

Around here the Peoples’ Republics are Davis and Berkeley. Is Madison in the confederation?

I keep meaning to get a bumper sticker printed up that reads “2L4O” — Too Liberal for Obama.”

Just got back from watching “The Karate Kid 2010” which was pretty good. Jackie Chan was very convincing as an old man. Jadan Smith was pretty good, too. Lots of nice scenery and the tournament was filled with some good fighting. The only odd thing was why is it the *karate: Kid when the kid learns Kung Fu?

A few years ago I had both a 1981 Volvo DL wagon and a 1969 VW Microbus, both covered in bumper stickers. My fave sticker proclaimed “Fund Mass Transit, Not Big Oil!”. Rather odd, I know, for my hometown lost interurban service about eight decades ago and the intercity bus ceased stopping here about twenty-five years back.
I got a great feeling tooling around Ann Arbor in either of those vehicles. The VW got a lot of grins and thumbs-ups.

If this was a Honda, I’d wonder if it was in the Kayakwoman fleet.

Considering Rand Paul, and his heinous dad, anybody ever consider the intimate family connection with fucking Lester Maddox? I mean, Lester was a clown. But as far as civil rights were concerned, you can bet he thought the same things about civil rights as Rand. Pickrick Drumsticks.

That’s the face of the Republic Party these days.

I worked in Ann Arbor in the day, Dexter. The line was a soul-killer. I chose sweeping floors. I had the job, union job, because my dad took care of Walter Reuther’s grandkids. I knew Mr. Reuther. He was s fine old guy.

Dexter, did that VW ever have unwanted acceleration problems? Great thing about VWs is you can fix just about anything yourself. We had a 70 something camper. Ridiculously cool and convenient. We used to put a canoe on top. I don’t think bungees were an option at the time, so it all depended on the quality of my half hitches, no worries, Eagle Scout. Much fun driving the bus. We had the popup and hammock, but not the captains chairs they came out with later. Endless stories about the VW, but I wouldn’t bore y’all. Road trips, like Mott opening for the Kinks, and buying Darkness on the Edge of Town at the local mall on the way back to the campground, and playing that sucker into the ground with Quebecois playing Funky Town and other disco drivel on either side..

Why did life have to get less enjoyable? Not really, but that sort of serendipity seems like a past that can’t be caught up with. Might happen again, right?

Nope @jcburns, not in the KW fleet (-: although KW did learn to drive stick on a VW bug. But that was in another city back in the Jurassic Age and the person who owned that car was, well, let’s just say he was not a democrat, at least not in the Jurassic Age. Later on, he hated politicians of all parties equally. Blue dress? “Stick it!” he would say.

KW is actually quite apolitical but somehow she manages to hoodwink a lot of the Planet Ann Arbor liberals into thinking she’s one of them.

The only sticker on any of vee-hickles in the KW fleet is a little Robot sticker on Daisy (aka “Mouse’s” car).

My car is mostly devoid of stickers (except a couple of decals in the side windows) – a hold-over from when I was doing research on the diss and would occasionally spend time in the California backcountry by myself. A lefty green in California in the 1980s and 1990s hears too many horror stories to want spotted owl-eatin’ yahoos and ORV-ridin’ assholes to guess at your politics, especially when you’re camping on a side road by yourself.

prospero, you’re very right about it being easy to fix the old VWs. My first car was a Bug, and there were occasions where I successfully fixed its engine with highly sophisticated tools such as dental floss and electrical tape.

I was in a hurry to replace a dead car so ended up with a small black sedan. I quickly realized that I needed to add bumper stickers so I could recognize *my* small black sedan from all the others! Back in the 60s when I was a tad no two models of cars looked alike. Today, all small GM cars look like small Toyota, Honda, Fords, etc. It’s sad.

I drive a ford F250 heavy duty. I never have any trouble finding my vehicle in the parking lot. Now, filling it up is another story. When we ordered the truck gas was $1.35. Three months later when we picked it up gas was $1.85. I miss those days.

The only bumper sticker that I was ever tempted to put on my car was one that said, “I support the right to arm bears”. I never did it though, probably for the best.

I like “my child sold your honor student exam answers.”
There are two stickers on my car. Auto Club and on a side window a Sector Nine Skateboards sticker. I have NASA logo sticker I’ll put on the back window one of these days. I have a lot of NASA stickers someone left at a job fair and my sons have been very creative with them. We have a NASA refrigerator, NASA vacuum cleaner, two NASA laptops and best of all, a NASA litter box.

I used to have two bumper stickers on both sides of my 1963 Ford Galaxie 500, both the same, with the logo that is pictured on this pin. I also still have this pin that is pictured here, and I know exactly where it is.

Here’s a quick look at a few pins from long-ago campaigns. I remember Ike-Stevenson in 1956 when I was six years old. Now they’re Chicago Expys.

Congrats, James. If he comes to Granville, Ohio on July 5 he can jump on the grand marshal float, since the Mile Long Parade theme this year is “100 Years of Scouting” and any Eagle or Girl Scout Gold Award earner is invited to climb aboard!

Had never seen a “Baby Carries No Cash” sign in a window, but I likey.

I had an idea for a bumpersticker, but the Bush administration used it as the touchstone of their policy. “Think locally, act globally.”

My husband said bumper stickers were a pain in the ass to remove if you ever sell the car, so I was sort of forbidden to have any. There aren’t many I’ve been tempted by, but I wistfully passed up a few over the years.

As far as recognizing my own car, we had a Chevy Celebrity station wagon in the late 80’s and once I was trying the key in the lock and it would not open. Finally my daughter, who was around 4 at the time, said “Mummy this isn’t our car. It has the wrong tires!” She meant hubcaps, but she was right.

Dorothy, my uncle lived in Chicago. One evening, after going to a movie, he came out and unlocked his car, got in, and realized because of various items lying on the seat, it wasn’t his car. His car was parked two parking spaces behind, identical car (Chrysler product of some kind) and the key worked perfectly. He quickly got out and got in HIS car.
